a thread for those who heard Think Different and took it as a challenge
as a creature that is driven by discontent as much as by novelty, i enjoy trying out different ways of being every so often just for their own sake. one day this'll get me into hot water, but until then i like to think that ...

Re: Project management tools
For personal research, journaling, and any form of sysadmin administration I need to do for my home network (writing down IP tables, processes, documenting my setup) I like to use Logseq. It's an Obsidian-like knowledge manager project, but it's FOSS. It's still quite early in its development, so ...

favorite finds of 2024
whatever the fate of this community may be, let's at least try to make it through the year, ne? and with this being the season of spotify wrappeds and such, i think it could be fun to talk about our favorite stuff that we've discovered this year.

i still can't get over this video… the dude managed to take a game that i'd never heard of and probably wouldn't care about if i had and, in an hour, make it something that i now care deeply about the survival of and which i kinda wanna try out for myself now too. it feels like the ...

Re: The Stranger
ah, that takes me back… i remember having to read the stranger for an existentialism class in college, and then one period of reflection and an hour staring at a ficus later, i got it. or, at least i got it to the extent that anyone in college gets anything, which is probably no more or less ...

Re: Recent Albums
i've been stuck here for a couple days, trying to figure out how i feel about the opening song on here, but the only concrete feeling i get is that this shouldn't be here . like this cassette art is very adorable, but damn if it doesn't also have that "i made this :)" look to it. but then you put in ...

Re: Computer Love
Otherwise, I've been playing with Tailscale and it's really cool. Suddenly I can have a personal network I access anywhere I go. Like it's not all perfect — I can't get huge media shares over SMB working flawless — but I can serve myself basic apps built on databases. I can keep central storage ...

i think i have a problem. genuinely, seriously.
or maybe i just can't help myself from trying things, just to see what would happen – or if anything would happen.

Re: emacs thread
i guess a barebones vimrc with just the motion keys rebound clocks in at 9 lines? and then my full doom bindings config file is a fair bit longer because i wanted to implement them for all the modes i cared about, as best as i could. i never got all the bugs worked out there, though.

Re: emacs thread
emacs is… one of those things i really wanted to love, and tried to love. i love the idea of big, learn-once do-everything software (see how i took to obsidian), and i was hoping that it could be the end of my text editor discontent. and because spacemacs looked pretty, i picked it up and worked ...

Re: What are you playing?
I'm not quite ready to start 1cc runs on anything, just yet. My first attempt at that will be Gradius II, possibly my favourite sequel ever. Trying to play through as many STGs as possible to figure out which titles appeal to me first.
that's entirely fair! i always felt like stgs are ...
