instant noodles

Post by sinku »

What is your favorite brand of instant noodles? I like Koka instant noodles and my favorite flavor of theirs is spicy stir fry, the original flavor. It comes with a flavor oil and a nice pleasantly spicy pack of powder that makes me wanna sneeze whenever I open it. I ordinarily gussy up the spice packs with a fresh egg yolk, soy sauce, sesame oil and a fat pinch of MSG, but on its own it is a great pack and only 383 calories.

for some reason, once my local grocery store stopped carrying it, it became near-impossible to find anywhere else. and i guess it makes sense… it is kind of a pain to make – you need to cook it on the stove for it to come out right – and the smell is rather seafoody… but it has such a nice mixture of sweet, savory, and spicy that's hard to find anywhere else. and sure, the stores here still stock the udon variant, but it's just not the same! it almost makes me feel mocked whenever i see that one…

maybe it's worth buying online, even if it costs double that way compared to what it used to.

beyond that, @meri tipped me off on adding hon tsuyu to ramen and that's been a game changer… i also like adding a bit of chili crisp, though i seem to have misplaced my last jar of it.

NOOO thats so sad ... okay it might be a longshot but you could try and get ahold of a mi goreng pack that might scratch your itch for the seafood, sweet, savory, spicy flavor? koka also does one and its nice, I just like spice.

ok yeah the indomie mi goreng packs are easy to find here and quite good too. my only issue with them is that they never feel very substantial by themselves, so unless i have other ingredients on-hand i tend to treat them more like a snack.

i don't know if i've ever seen koka here… i'll have to keep an eye out.
